I've never paid so much for a kids costume before but splurged for my daughter who really wanted to be the little mermaid. This costume is definitely gorgeous and the best looking one out there, but it runs quite small in the torso. My child is 3 1/2 and we ordered the size 4. The length was perfect, but the fit on top was tight. We could hardly get it zipped up in the back. The arm bands were also too tight to wear up on top of the arm so my daughter wore them like bracelets, they still looked really cute. My daughter is averaged size. All of her size 3 clothes fit perfectly. We did get lots of compliments and I agree it is the best looking out there. However the second day she wore it it tore in the front. I was so disappointed. This was on Halloween. I was with her the whole time, there was no crazy behavior or anything that would cause a rip. We don't know how it happened other than that it is tight and the fabric is not real strong. I justified buying this in the first place because I thought it could be used for dress up, but with the tight size and now the rip, I'm wondering how long it will last. It has been a disappointment, especially for the steep price. Which is too bad since it is so great looking. Oh also, the pearls on the headband started falling off as soon as we took it out of the package. I ended up having to hot glue them back on myself. Again, just not really well made.
